The truth or your opinion? Never treat an opinion as the truth or - TopicsExpress

The truth or your opinion? Never treat an opinion as the truth or the truth as an opinion. We have the philosophy in our culture- what’s true for me may not be true for you. We have made right and wrong into at best, a personal preference. You hear Christians say this a lot- “Well, I wouldn’t do that personally…” In other words, it is your personal preference. There is no urgency to get people to see rights and wrongs, because you are just comparing preferences- like chocolate vs. vanilla. “Hey, I wouldn’t eat chocolate, but you have every right to.” We used to say, referring to something unjust that someone had done, “You have no RIGHT to do that!” Now apparently we have the right to do anything, because it is just a personal preference. Who are we to interfere with people’s personal preferences? But if a major injustice is being committed, this would create an urgency in us to fight against it. We have created all these “morally neutral” adjectives in society- we no longer say things are “right” or “wrong.” We say things like “that was inappropriate,” “that was unprofessional,” etc. Even what you consider right is your opinion, so there is no active effort to change people’s opinions, because none of them are right or wrong anyway. The devil wants to turn our message into mush and make it seem meaningless so it will be ineffective. The devil works in shades of gray. God works in black and white- rights and wrongs. The devil loves putting some truth into a lie. The devil rarely works in obvious ways- he works in gradual ways, step by step; he twists things until they break. He rarely presents a blatant lie. This is what is so seductive about the devil. He says things that are true but twists them. But he will keep twisting the truth until it breaks, leaving nothing left but the lie. C.S. Lewis once said that all powerful lies were based on a truth. There is a lot of “untangling” of lies today in society to be done. The devil loves nuances. When God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, I notice He didn’t give Moses the "20,000 Nuances." He made it simple. “Many people today have been taught that we are God, and that judgments of right and wrong, even decisions of life and death, belong to the individual. Therefore, it hurts the pride of man to be told that we are not God. God defines right and wrong. He is the final Judge of the world. The Bible tells us to lay down our pride and to receive His son, Jesus, as our Savior. He will replace our hate, anger, and fear with love, peace, and joy. I encourage everyone to reject the idea that we can be our own God. We can never find truth on our own; we only find it as we humbly submit to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” -Dan Laughhunn
