The turkey is in the oven, the house is empty except for me and the cats and Ive had a moment or two to reflect on this holiday. Many who know me know that Christmas is not my favorite holiday. I find it very stressful and often rather empty. This year was different. Susan and I decided to sponsor the family of one of my students instead of exchanging gifts with each other. We shopped carefully for all three children. This week I wrapped all the gifts in the prettiest paper and ribbons. Last night, Susan and I drove over to their little apartment and delivered the gifts. They had a sweet little tree set up in their bare living room. I can tell you there were no other gifts under the tree. As we visited with the mother....we determined that there probably wouldnt have been any gifts under that tree. She was very, very gracious and thankful. Slowly the kids filtered into the living room to see the delivery. The youngest little girl started dancing and jumping around the living room she was so excited! The oldest brother thanked us over and over again. My little student was shyly peeking from the stairway.....probably in shock that Miss Shelley was in his living room! Those little kids were so happy....it was so nice. I guess I am trying to say that this experience changed me.....it was the best Christmas in my whole life. Merry Christmas everyone
