The two ragas Bhoop and Durga are very similar in their jaatis, - TopicsExpress

The two ragas Bhoop and Durga are very similar in their jaatis, Audav Audav (using five swaras while climbing up the notes or descending). Sa re ga pa dha make a bhoop and sa re ma pa make it durga. While rendring it in vocals, I would often be aware of the technicalities of it. But when listening to ustaad Bismillah sahib render it on the shehnaai, the veil over the two ragas began to open and durga reveled in the mystery and enigma of a feminine beauty. While ga adds a unique resplendent vitality and viciousness to bhoop, the quintessential “ma” reinvigorates the feminine force and hence perhaps aptly it is called durga. When you climb the notes, the “ma” seems like a confident force to reckon and when you get down the “ma” is like the poignant woman calling some stranger, a forlorn love, a mother bidding an adieu to the son. The sa re MA pa dha, made me quiver within, cry silently and feel so beautiful inside that “Thank God I am a woman who has so much resplendence and beauty within”. Durga has been immortalized by the maestro. His instrument speaks a million silences hidden inside the deep fathoms of a man’s heart or perhaps to be correct neither politically or diplomatically correct a “WOMAN’s” heart. Ustaad sahib love you! https://youtube/watch?v=l7gmcMv00iw
