The urge to decorate walls has its beginnings back in the cave paintings of prehistoric man. First discovered in the nineteenth century hidden deep in the hillsides of France and Spain, images of running bulls, bison and scenes of hunting held in a spiritual power for the people that created them. It was thought that depicting images of the hunt on walls would lead to success in the actual event. These paintings used a fairly basic palette of rich red-browns and black, all derived from the earth and forming the basis of pigments that are still in use today. Read more: bit.ly/1vvwelS
