The valet staff at the Hyatt Grand in San Diego have been especially gracious to this cyclist: each morning theyve offered to secure my bike in a closet near their station, with all the dignity theyd offer a motorist but without the customary $49 fee. Needless to say, I tip them well for the convenience and courtesy. The young man who retrieved my bike last night told me this evening that after our conversation hed gotten a fresh pair of tubes for his own bike, and was looking forward to dusting it off this weekend to enjoy a bit of the California coast. Surgeon Generals Warning: bicycling is addictive and contagious. A summer eve on a bicycle in California is not a bad moment at all....
