The vast majority of people on this thread are pretty ignorant and some are fairly rude too. The caption on the image tells us nothing but its slanted to be negative. Why couldnt it say This mother of two finds healthy living on assistance benefits to be difficult, what can we do to help? but instead its feeding people fuel to judge others, not themselves. Walking is free. I dont do cardio. Im nowhere near this ladys size and I dont do cardio because Im uncomfortable with how my body feels when I do certain things. I dont even do yoga standing up, I only do the seated positions. Besides my general anxiety, the idea of going for a walk in public is embarrassing. People stare, make rude comments etc. Theres more to this than just the physical ability to put one foot in front of the other. Theres a whole psychological aspect. It took me months and months of talking to fitness concious friends before I found the will power just to TRY doing things in my OWN HOME. **** What we should be discussing is how to get affordable exercise, nutrition and healthy living/cooking course available within our communities. These are habits and knowledge that should be taught to everyone.**** FRESH VEGETABLES ARE NOT ACTUALLY CHEAP! And theyre difficult to keep when you only get paid once a month. The Good Food Box program is amazing and available to EVERYONE, not just low income people and the more people use it, the more fruits and veggies can be distributed per box. Community gardens NEED to be more common place. People should start being more conscious of what they donate to food banks. I get that beggars cant be choosers but we should be looking out for each other better. Sugary and starchy foods only make people hungrier, provide less energy, promotes weight gain and overall poorer health. Which in turn puts more strain on our health care system and your tax dollars (Yes, your precious tax dollars!). And as far as her tattoos, she could have gotten them before. A lot of mine are deals from friends, often in exchange for things. Portfolio photos, house work, babysitting, help with the business etc. Hell my first 3 were 100% free. Its ridiculous the type of assumptions, negativity and judgement people place on each other. Its not just the people who feel trapped in unhealthy lifestyles that need to change. WE NEED TO CHANGE TOO! We need to start helping each other. This everyone fends for themselves attitude is dividing us further and hurting our overall ability to be happy. P.s. Orange hair dye is less than $10 a month. Is it really such a horrible thing for someone to treat themselves to something for $10 to feel more positive about their physical appearance considering the high value we place on beauty and self esteem? Especially when this lady probably faces a horrible onslaught of negative comments about her weight daily. As a heavier person, I hear these things too. You think we dont but we do. Youre not actually out of earshot, we just ignore you. Whispers travel.
