The very nature of obedience to Gods law means that your soul must - TopicsExpress

The very nature of obedience to Gods law means that your soul must be comforted by the gospel if you are going to obey God. I have already told you that you have to be assured of your reconciliation with God, of your future happiness, and of your sufficient strength, if you are going to obey God. Joshua had to be strong and courageous in order to do what Moses, the servant of the Lord, commanded him to do (Joshua 1:7). You cannot possibly obey God if you have not received the comfort of the gospel. Think about it. Can you love God and delight in him more than anything else if you consider him your everlasting enemy? Can you love God if you do not believe that he has shown you love and mercy? Can you delight in God if you do not think God is altogether lovely? Your heart will be miserable when you try to praise God if you think that Gods perfections are going to make you miserable, and not make you happy. What a heartless work it will be to pray to him, and offer yourself to serve him, if you do not have any assurance that he will accept you. Can you possibly free yourself from troublesome cares by casting your care upon the Lord, if you do not believe that he cares for you? Can you be patient if affliction, and cheerful during persecution, if you do not have a peace with God and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God? (Romans 5:1-3). Can you obey God unto death, if you have no assurance that you have escaped the fear of horrible punishment in hell forever? page 121 The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification - Growing in Holiness by Living in Union with Christ
