The victim in Tuesday afternoon’s drowning incident at Mickler’s Beach has been identified. The victim was identified as Thai Quoc Pham, 20, a United Kingdom citizen who was visiting relatives in Jacksonville. The victim was swimming at Micklers Beach at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, in front of the lifeguard tower. The victim appeared to get caught in a rip current and began to struggle in the water about 50 yards from the beach. A lifeguard reached the victim a short time later however, the victim was already unresponsive and was brought to the beach. With the assistance of another lifeguard and an off-duty nurse lifesaving efforts began and were continued by county rescue personnel. The victim was transported to Beaches Baptist Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation.
