The ward boy violated her and left her to die but make no mistake, we took away her dignity. You and me quoting crap like sanctity of life and humbug like religious sanction, nurses at her hospital so that they can wear seva on their sleeve and successive governments for fear of losing votes. Meanwhile for forty years Aruna Shanbag has existed helplessly, unable to move, express herself and maybe even unable to think and feel without the benefit of friends and family. One part of me certainly hopes that people against euthanasia should suffer her fate. Not that they would be able to tell us how they feel but at least it would be divine retribution.
