The way things change: (Caution: Nerd stuff!) My Father’s first job out of high school was pattern maker for the Atlanta Stove Works making wood patterns for cast iron stove parts. (Historic Nerd stuff!) The patterns, made slightly larger than the actual part to account for the cast iron shrinking as it cooled, were then packed in casting sand, the resulting mold, with the pattern remove, was then filled with the molten iron resulting in the cast iron part. This was a highly skilled craftsman’s job in the 1930’s. I still use the office desk he built as his senior project in high school. Today, the internet brought this article.
