The week prior to the Miri Triathlon was the annual Panaga - TopicsExpress

The week prior to the Miri Triathlon was the annual Panaga triathlon last month. As there were problems with smoke and fires in May, this was the only race for the year when there have been two in the past. There were also a few great changes to the race this year; 1) A sea swim and mass start which turned it into a competitive race, in the past we had started in the swimming pool on times intervals 2) A up and back bike course which went along the coastal road. This felt safer than the previous races as we were off the main road and saw very little traffic. You can also size up competitors! 3) Draft legal racing. I am new to this style and although it is physically easier to draft I find it mentally more challenging due to tactics. In past races I just look at pace and heart rate and zone out 4) A new transition and more competitors this year. I liked the transition set up as we kept off the road which was better for the feet Of course the run was another highlight but now it seems that all three legs have something to offer and it was great swimming and riding in and group with competitors of similar abilities. For those who are a bit afraid of the ocean. The water was quite shallow and the waves were calm. There were also a couple of guys on kayaks to help with those struggling. Thankfully the water was placid. Definitely a highlight on the Brunei sports calendar and the breakfast and friendly atmosphere makes it worth a visit down to KB. Looking forward to next year
