The whole promise! We’ve all been there before. The preacher - TopicsExpress

The whole promise! We’ve all been there before. The preacher asks a question that we all know the answer to. Yet we know that the question will lead to a new revelation of a truth you are familiar with. So we wait in anticipation for the new revelation that God is bringing. This week’s post does exactly that. So my question is ‘did the Israelites enter into God’s promise regarding the Promised Land? The answer most of us would say is yes. Yes, that is, until we read Deuteronomy 12:9-10. But you will cross the Jordan and settle in the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, and he will give you rest from all your enemies around you so that you will live in safety. The children of Israel did enter into the land of Canaan physically but let’s examine the promise again. The ‘whole promise’ was for them to enter into God’s rest so they can live in safety. The book of Joshua chronicles how the Israelites conquered the land whilst the book of Judges gives an insight into how they lived in the land. They enjoyed periods of peace as well as intermittent periods of oppression from their enemies – far from what God initially intended for them. For the scholars amongst us, I have lifted the relevant scriptures below Judges Ruled by Peace 3.7 8 40 3.12 18 80 4.1 20 40 6.1 7 40 10.6 18 6 13.1 40 20 Basically, they failed to overcome their enemies and live in safety. This brings me back to the initial question – did the Israelites enter into God’s rest where they dwelt in safety? The answer would have to be no. Partial rest is not the same as total rest. This reminds me of the prophetic words spoken over my life. In many instances, I remember the key words or thrust of the word (e.g. entering into the Promised Land’ but many times I forget the details (e.g. rest from my enemies). Yet, every word from God’s mouth is important. Applying this to a personal level, the question is, has God spoken to you about any aspect of your life and business and are you living in the totality of the word? Are you living and embracing the whole promise of God? For me, this involves examining the detail of the word as every word that comes out of His mouth is important. It might be different for you but you get the point I am trying to male To enter into the fulfilment of the word, we need to examine the word in its entirety. This is particularly important for prophetic words where there might be pre-requisites for the fulfilment of the word. So make sure that you examine ‘all’ the words that God has spoken so that you enter into its total fulfilment. Why not take a minute to reflect on the words that God has given you and assess how you are doing? May the Lord continue to expand your life until your destiny is fulfilled. So until I appear again in your inbox with more insight into the scriptures, stay blessed Ola christianbusinessmagazine/category/uncategorized/
