The winners of the Phil Post contest for the Papal Visit 2014 Stamp Design is announced. PHLPost announces winners of the on-the-spot ‘Papal Visit Stamp’ competition Two students from Bulacan and two professionals from Valenzuela will have the privilege to showcase their artwork to Pope Francis and the rest of the country, after PHLPost announced the winners in the “Papal Visit Stamps” on-the-spot design contest. For the professional category, PHLPost declared as winners the entries of Mr. Dave Arjay Tan and Mr. Salvador Banares Jr. while the stamp designs of Bryan Michael Bunag and Mark Leo Maac were the top two designs selected for the the student category. The winning entries will be the official stamp designs for national and international circulation in time for the coming Papal Visit on 15 January 2015. The four winners will receive P15,000.00 each as cash prize. According to Postmaster General and CEO Josie Dela Cruz, PHLPost encouraged the public, especially the Filipino youth, to participate in the on-the-spot stamp design contest to provide them the opportunity to show their admiration and love for Pope Francis through their talent in the visual arts. Pope Francis is the third pope to be featured in the Philippine stamps. In the previous stamps featuring past and present popes, the demand had always been very high locally – as there is a growing number of Filipino devotees of the blessed father; and internationally – as there are many foreign collectors of pope stamps. These stamps are even more special because we are working at having the designs personally presented to His Holiness when he makes his historic visit to the country in January next year,” added Dela Cruz. PHLPost held a nationwide competition themed “A Nation of Mercy and Compassion” on 24 October 2014, participated in by 800 students, in selected Robinsons Malls to promote awareness among the youth on the significance of celebrating the Papal Visit through the creative art of postage designs and to make stamp-collection a relevant venue for this celebration.
