The word Lent is from Old English “lencten” meaning - TopicsExpress

The word Lent is from Old English “lencten” meaning “springtime,” a time of renewal. As winter thaws and life begins to peek from the earth, we too come from the hibernation of coldness. The Spirit begins to stir within us, calling us to renewal in all dimensions of ourselves. Mentally, we start paying more attention to the meaning of scripture; emotionally, we begin to discern our behavior; physically, we start unfolding from the grip of snow and ice. As Lent draws on, it draws us out. Springtime beckons us to embrace newness coming to life. Soon we’ll be weeding our gardens, clearing away the old to make room for the new. But, in order to explore the freshness, we must honor each step toward renewal. We still have a rainy season to accept before the reign of the Sun/Son resurrects our spirits fully once again.
