The word, (Rock-Bottom) So often when we hit Rock-Bottom, we focus on the secondary part of the word "bottom" instead of the first part of word, which is "Rock." Back in elementary school around 2nd grade English/Language Arts, we learned about a concept known as a compound word which are two separate words that can stand alone independently, but when they come together they form a whole new word. The word (bottom) by itself means the underside, foot or floor of something. The word (rock) by itself means to shake or a type of mineral that’s difficult to crack like granite or marble. This is why we use the analogy, “solid as a rock,” to represent the strength of something that may shake every once in a while but can endure the shakes of life. For most of us, when the words rock and bottom come together we tend to think of this seasonal phase in our life as being at our lowest; when a more accurate interpretation would be that we are being shaken at the footing or foundation level in order to build up or strength and endurance so that we will have the resolve to withstand any storm. The key to getting through any rock bottom season is to remember that although you are being shaken at the foundational level, like the rock you are solid enough, whether you think you are or whether you believe you are not, to withstand. Just like granite, marble or sandstone your possess the brickwork and building material to not only withstand but to rebuild at the foundational level if that’s what you need to do to make your life work. Remember the old 007 movies with Sean Connery? Whenever he ordered a drink, he requested that his drink be shaken, not stirred. Perhaps he was on to something and knew that although having to drink from a shaken cup can be bitter, unpleasant and hard to digest, in the end the shaken cup enables you to learn how to stomach the harshness of life in order to get through whatever you are going through without being totally broken by the experience. Being shaken also forces you to lean on and seek guidance from the ultimate "Rock"...The Creator. So today, revert back to your 2nd grade education and remember that…. rock + bottom = (solid enough to withstand a few shakes.) By: Cassandra Mack...strategiesforempoweredliving
