The word pagan gets thrown around quite a bit on this group. I would encourage those who choose to use the word to be certain of what they mean by it. Paganism is a bit hard to define, mainly because the phrase is used as something of a catch-all for pre-Christian religions or religious practices. The truth is, however, that pre-Christian religions were far from unanimous in their beliefs or practices. Most often in this group the phrase is used to refer to either Greek and Roman polytheism, or various forms of religion in the Near East, such as Egyptian or Babylonian religions. If someone wants to make a point about these religions, the most direct and honest route would be to cite the original religious source, rather than lumping them all into a confusing and, frankly, convoluted bucked called Paganism. Heres a source of more information on the concept of Paganism (from a non-Catholic source for those of you who dont trust Catholic sources). patheos/Library/Pagan.html
