The work the David Sheldrick Trust do is amazing. My wee Godson and I spent an hour yesterday evening with the orphaned ellies (which are all released back into the wild once they are ready) and he got to personally meet little Mbegu, the orphaned ellie I adopted for him. She has had a very traumatic time in her brief life thus far, her back is scarred, her herd stampeded and she couldnt find her way back to them. We werent allowed in her enclosure as she had already gone to bed and only the keepers are allowed in there in order for them not to get too habituated to humans, but you are allowed to show affection for them as long as it is brief. It was a very special experience.
