The world can sometimes be a selfish place, but in the face of adversity there is always kindness. Just how humanity is capable of incomprehensible cruelty and hate, humanity is also capable of great compassion and love. So which is our nature? Just how we can destroy, we can build, just how we can kill, we can love, just how we can hate, we can hope. Not many people today agree with me but I hold on, I have faith, that each and everyday humankind is selfless and caring, that there is still good left in this world, that there is still hope, and it is worth fighting for. We must learn to forgive again, to care, to have faith in each other. I believe that if you can do good things for other people, you have a moral obligation to do those things, not a choice, a moral responsibility. Todays problems are a test of our conscience, humanity has the capacity for good but a tendency to evil, but we can change that, one small act of kindness at a time. We must stop the them and us, it divides us, destroys us, tears us apart, away from our beliefs. We must love each other, accept each other, be selfless, hope in each other, we are all equal, we are all brothers and sisters. We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This is not just for Americans but for all mankind. We must make a change, it starts with each one of us. If not, will we look into the eyes of our children and confess that we had the opportunity but lacked the courage? That we not only failed to have faith in who we are, but in who we could be. That evil triumph because good men failed to act. I will never accept that hope is lost, so long as there are those who refuse to bend and move to evil, then there is always hope. The world is my country, all mankind my brethren, and to do good is my religion- Thomas Paine.
