The worst gig Ive ever experienced, (Methinks...) It was the pinnacle of Elias, Schritt and Bell fame. The radio was playing our songs across the country, we were packing every place we played, and coming off a little tour, warming up for The Pointer Sisters. Management had booked us for a benefit concert in Winkler, after having played Brandon, (I think.) I was most excited to play to my hometown crowd, and the carnival rolled in with a five-ton truck full of lights, a huge Banquox P.A. and tons of staging. We set up all day, and when it was time to go on, my beloved Aunt Mary and cousin Carol were the only people there. (Even the promoter wasnt there, and the janitor who let us in was looking at us, sideways.) I jumped in the van, and went to The Oasis, a coffee shop I had frequented as a young man, to see what the hell was going on. I found my old coffee buddies, people I had spent hundreds of hours with in my youth. They were still there, at our table discussing the merits of snow tires and what type of anti-freeze to use. I cajoled them to come to the show, but they werent interested in the least. Went back to the auditorium and played a couple of songs for Aunt Mary and Carol, and packed up. I vowed never to perform in Winkler ever again, and I havent. I hate that town to this day...
