The year 1972 saw many dramatic and even drastic changes in the entire North-East region of India. There was the independence of Bangladesh with the fall-out of about two million refugees from this country. Assam was reorganised into Meghalaya, Mizoram, and the Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura also attained full statehood. The main brunt of the #refugee influx was borne by Assam though Tripura also received its share of refugees. As for #Nagaland, no outsiders could Dare to come in due to the inner line system of protection to the #Nagas. However, Bengali labour was now cheaply available and the noveau rich Naga landlords wanted to make the most of this.
