The zeal for the Church Building is eaten Jesus up. People run to church buildings instead of the Gospels. To eat in the context Jesus is talking about is to gradually destroy, use, or take away something : to wear something away. And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up. (John 2:17 KJV) Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
