Theoretical Experiences What we experience in our own lives - TopicsExpress

Theoretical Experiences What we experience in our own lives constitute a large portion of how we form our political ideas. However, for any political ideology, personal experience also clash with theoretical and collective experiences. How and who we choose to empathize with have a wide influence. For example, retirement planning is based on a kind of time travelling empathy. I may be a young healthy individual, capable of holding a full time job in the present but in the future I am likely to be aged, ill, and unable to perform at the level I do today. Therefore it behooves me to find some means of supporting my future self. The creation of social security adds a further economic element in the ability to foresee a circumstance in which my economic circumstance will be insufficient to provide a private retirement fund. We engage in this kind of imagination often. We might not be a property owner today but we could imagine potentially being one in the future. We might not be a business owner but we could be. We might not be in poverty but we could be. I dont want to put any particular direction on this but I do want to encourage other members to think about how theoretical experiences form our decisions and which ones we choose to engage or ignore.
