There Has To Be A Better Plan (Via Herschel M. Sigall, OSTA General Counsel): I watched the live coverage of the shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC. Literally hundreds of police vehicles speeding back and forth; scores of armored vehicles heading back and forth; scores of helicopters overhead; snipers on buildings; the city locked down; the Washington Nationals stadium being used to house employees and visitors to the Navy Yard who were bused there for processing for later release; Washington National Airport temporarily shut down; hundreds if not thousands of armed officers responding to nowhere and everywhere....All in response to a single shooter who managed to kill 12 people before being killed himself. Tomorrow only essential employees will be permitted on base. Our nations capital was in panic and was literally held hostage to one man. He was not a trained saboteur; not a foreign terrorist; not part of an assault team; with limited firepower; without a plan to escape.............. Surely, we have to develop a better plan to respond to these shootings because we are going to see more of them. Especially when frustrated, angry and unbalanced men see that they can bring a city to its knees in the manner of the best of the violent video games. The economic cost of today is undeniably in the millions of dollars and rising. There has to be a better way and we had better find it quickly.
