There are a few things that just get under my skin when Im walking - TopicsExpress

There are a few things that just get under my skin when Im walking through a storm damaged home and one of them is finding metal pipes, wiring, and other safety concerns that have not been properly remediated. I know Ive posted pictures of all sorts of issues that will lead to building deterioration so heres just one more for the files, one that could cost lives and makes me lose sleep at night just thinking about people possibly sleeping in these homes. Salt water is highly corrosive and can cause mechanical failure not only at the joints, but mid-line as well. Add water and its also very conductive (additional attribute to corrosion, too much for even the sacrificial layer on coated metal surfaces). Although it may not seem like it at first, items like black iron gas piping, electrical wiring, metal electric boxes, copper piping, etc... need to be replaced......PERIOD! Ive been in homes that I know were flooded before only to find the same BX wiring is still there, sometimes in very close proximity to old metal gas pipes. Whether together, or separate and whether this is the first flooding or one of many, please be sure if you do nothing else, get rid of this stuff. You dont have to take my word on any of this but please do your research to make sure your family is safe.
