There are a number of people who have developed an ability to communicate with animals. For some strange reason, my communications seem to be limited to disease conditions. Recently I was talking with a malignant tumor on a dog and it went like this: Me: Why are you growing here? Tumor: Thats our job. We live here. Me: But why do you keep growing, getting larger and larger? Dont you see that is a problem? Tumor: What problem? We are just doing what comes naturally. We are supposed to grow. Me: But if you keep growing like this, then the dog you are growing on will die and so will you. Tumor: I dont see a problem. Everything is going well. There is plenty of food, lots of space. I think you are being negative here. I wont go into the rest of the dialogue as I want to contrast it with the odd happening later in the day. I was listening to a debate between an economist and the author of a book that suggests we should revamp our expectations and reduce consumption and emphasize sustainability. It went like this: Economist: We have to get our economy back on track. Unless we have consistent growth we cant succeed. Author: But we cant keep growing like this. There are not enough resources. If we continue at this rate we will exhaust the planet and we will all die. Economist: There is no shortage of resources, new discoveries are being made all the time. We have to grow, that is the only way we will not fall behind. Author: But growth cannot be unlimited. There has to be a point where we stop growing and develop another view of all this. Unlimited growth cannot be sustained. Economist: Dont be so negative. We have no shortage, the potential for our development is unlimited. If necessary we will find new planets to expand to. Need I say more?
