There are few things I truly hate, but cancer is one of them. I have seen the pain it inflicts, and felt the pain it leaves behind. I’ve seen the strength of a body evaporate, and felt the burden of care needed afterward, I’ve seen the life drained away from friends and family, and felt the loss that never goes away. Brother-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and my dad have fought this enemy. Some survived the horrible war, but most were ushered into eternity. Yes, I truly hate cancer. But I will not fear cancer. My Lord tells me not to fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul. And in the midst of ravished bodies, I have never seen cancer harm the soul. In fact, I’ve seen inner strength, faith, and love grow in the midst of struggle, confusion, and pain. I’ve seen souls rise up in triumph as they battle this evil disease. I hate cancer, but I refuse to fear it.
