There are many analogies in Scripture that draw a comparison from the natural to the spiritual. For instance we are to be “fishers of men”. The Word is a “seed” that is sown into men’s hearts. Jesus is the “Bread of Life”. In like manner He is the “Light of the world”. In the natural we readily grasp the difference between light and darkness. The spiritual truth is even more powerful than what we see in the natural. Darkness is the domain of evil and represents the work of satan. When we turn on the light in an unlit room darkness is gone—overcome by the light. When the “Light of the world” shines through us satan loses his ability to operate and has to flee.
