There are many unusual “holidays” listed on the Holiday Insights Bizarre, Wacky and Unique Holidays calendar. And as far as I’m concerned, today’s is both really bizarre and very wacky. It’s known as Old Rock Day. The unknown wacko that came up with it also neglected to tell us exactly what old rock we should be celebrating, and how we should be celebrating it. Visiting the Rock of Gibraltar could be one way to pay homage to Old Rock Day. Or, we could go hunting for fossils. Another alternative would be to buy our dearly beloved a shiny bauble with a fancy cut diamond –a “rock” in the criminal parlance. Still more, we could visit Cork, Ireland and kiss the Cloch na Blarnan, a.k.a. The Blarney Stone, which would bestow upon us the gift of gab, making us either eloquent or superb at flattery. Or, yet another option would be to brush up on rrrolling ourr arrr’s, travel to Scotland, and participate in 1995’s BRAVEHEART stone throwing contest.
