There are millions of religious people who focus on good works. Good on them! I admire that and commend it. But trying to grasp this writers thesis is like trying to grab air. Rather than focus on doing for others, this writer (Krista Tippet is similar) seems to really only have one thesis: because of saying these vague flowery things, we are to view her as sensitive and deep. But real depth would involve being clear, and clearly calling for specific action that makes this world a better place. Vaguely asserting that her idea (lacking evidence) is better than some other idea (which also lacks evidence) apparently because her idea is more vague is both wacky and unhelpful to getting on with the business of improving this world. Her writing is a waste of New York Times space when children are dying in the mideast and children are starving all over the world and morons like Rick Perry are acting tough in the face of vulnerable children who need help. They should pull this writer from the pages and replace it with the many substantive writers that are available.
