There are moments in ones life when it hits you that wow this is something special. Singing for and meeting the Queen, performing the soloist in the Messiah at the Orpheum at 14, and meeting my Guru have been some of those prolific moments and tomorrow will surley be another. Almost seven years ago I met the Great Laurier LaPierre. Laurier was a prolific brodcaster and Canadin TV icon who went on to become Canadas first openly gay member of the upper chamber of Parliament, the Senate. Our friendship started at my first professional engagement in Ottawa and it was Laurier who introduced me to my friend and mentor Sheila Copps, the former Deputy Prime Minister. Until 2012 we had had many memorable meetings, the last being at Sheilas step daughters home, Ill never for get it.. I was standing next to Laurier, who was sitting, and this gorgeous women walked by and Laurier being his charming excentric self decides to pinch her backside. She then proceeds to turn around and glare dangers at me... Laurier then calmly exclaims dustin how in appropriate with the most devilish grin. Tomorrow Im honored to have been invited to sing at the unveiling of his monument by his beloved partner Harvey Slack. Ive chosen to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow because Laurier had once interviewed the great lady herself, Judy Garland, so i wouls like to dedicate tomorrows song to this Titan of a man and to the memory of all the friends of dorthy
