There are no rules to art, and that includes literary art, such as novels, short stories, poetry, lyrics, or whatever new genre or format that you create. Someone might indicate what they think will be popular, what they think is valuable (what might sell and what might not sell), what they think is a good or bad technique. You might learn about genres, about style, about semantics, about historical or biographical or political context, . . . But, if you are an author (an artist), then you imagine, and you write what you imagine. The audience might like, or might not like what you write, and that is okay. The audience might interpret what you write in a way that surprises you, and that is okay. Critics might analyze what you write in ways that you think are unfavorable, and that is okay. Whatever you create, whatever you think is art is art. There are no rules to art.
