There are probably harder jobs than being a police officer but I cant think of too many. Nevertheless, the recent deaths of African Americans, including the death of a 12 year old boy in Cleveland, raise an issue thats been overlooked by the news media. Its the idea of retreat. Does it make sense to you to kill a person for walking in the middle of a residential street ? For selling single cigarettes ? Or sitting on a park bench ? In all three instances the police officers could have simply retreated, called for backup and waited. None of these events rose to the level of imminent harm. The vast majority of our law enforcement understand and utilize these tactics ...patience, dialog and understanding that an arrest can be made later. No one is going anywhere.
