There are reasons they dont ever REALLY teach you about the Civil - TopicsExpress

There are reasons they dont ever REALLY teach you about the Civil Rights in history class growing up. I remember how I used to check each Social Studies textbook each year until I found each section that always started with a picture of Martin Luther King, Jr, before I asked each teacher Are you going to teach us about this? Each time, it was made obvious to me that each teacher had never been asked that before. Each year, the answer was always no. I dont know if anyone ever asked them again. I learned that Columbus discovered an inhabited continent before those very people fed every pilgrim who just wanted religious freedom. I know those pilgrims were so thankful for the help that they threatened those native inhabitants to either convert to their religion they or die so that they could practice their religion freely, since thats why they made the trip, and all. I know those very same people who were here first before anyone discovered this bit of earth teamed of with the French, of all people, to be defeated by our British Sovereign. But we didnt like British rule anymore because we liked freedom. So we teamed up with the French, of all people, to vanquish British rule (so why ARE we so obsessed with their royal family really?). And then we did this thing in 1812. They wrote a song about it. And in all that warring for freedom, WE started picking up dark people from their homes in a whole other peace of earth because dark people are scary, so they should be corralled, cornered, quarted, beaten, enslaved, traded, sliced, flayed, brain washed, publicly castrated, chained, whipped, forced to kill each other for OUR sport, and be told theyre stupid because WE refused to teach them how to read. And then there was the Civil War where Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves, and everything was great until Pearl Harbor. Can you guess where I slid in some details they might have glossed over? The Civil War didnt end slavery. The Civil Rights Movement didnt end racism. We still arent free. None of us are until we all are.
