There are some days when extraordinary things happen that you just cannot explain. Yesterday we learned of this powerful story, Patrick Speaks, which was featured on the UKs Unreported World. Patrick Otema is a 15 year old young man who was born profoundly deaf. In the remote area of Uganda where he lives there are no schools for deaf children, and he had never before had a conversation. As a company, we are proud to support a lot of mission work in various parts of the world, but we did not recognize Patrick nor the organization that he was working with to learn sign language in Uganda. So, thanks to social media, we reached out to the producer of the documentary, Daniel Bogado, and have since been put in touch with two organizations working with Patrick and doing amazing work: UNAD (unadeaf.org/) and SignHealth (signhealth.org.uk/fund-a-teacher/). Just like with our Lipscomb Pitts Breakfast Club (LPBC) and commitment to the Memphis community, we are now excited to join the effort to support these organizations and help spread the word, so that we can truly be a part of Patricks story and that of so many others there in Uganda.
