There are things in your life that divide your life into segments. For me, there will always be before my grandmother died, and after. And as complex as that relationship was, she was my maternal figure my whole life. She may have drank too much, and smoked too much, but she always was around to celebrate good things, or lend me her shoulder when life seemed to seem overwhelming. If your parents are still alive, and they arent complete sociopaths, treasure them. Even if they are dysfunctional or flawed, no one will ever love you or truly root for you like your parents. Im lucky to have my friend Rachel B Conti to be with me this anniversary of my moms death. I guess sometimes you have to make your own family. ❤
