There are women who dont usually put weaves on. And yet on an important day when they are supposed to look their most beautiful, a day like their graduation ceremonies, their weddings, their birthday parties, decide to wear a weave. Basically, these womens understanding of what ultimate beauty is, has to do with weaves and pink blush on their cheeks; blue/green contact lenses etc. They hold this kind of beauty in such high regard that they believe that it must be reserved only for special occasions. And I think this is where you begin to realise that there is more to the Black struggle than economic freedom and political power. When a Black persons definition of ultimate beauty is the alteration of that which is authentically Black, an assimilation into that which is non-Black, then you realise that land and economy are not the only struggles that must be waged with urgency in our country...
