There comes a time when Elementary children just need to rule the world. MMUUUWWWAAAHHH. I assigned my students the task of creating their own country. They had to design a map with several key elements. We had planned Carcassonne a few weeks before this. Yesterday, I had the kids place their maps together with rivers meeting rivers or oceans. Then I gave them the task of building roads to connect their palace, market and village together. After they did that I gave them each a resource for them to control. They had to work together to develop trade routes and start trading with each other. THEY LOVED IT and they got the concepts of trade routes, mapping, supply and demand plus leadership skills.
