There has been a lot of discussion lately about the morality of police officers. Ive been questioned about how I feel about varies incidents that have occurred regarding officers. In all that we do as human beings, from being in the pulpit to being in the strip club, one will encounter good and evil. Ive seen officers do things that are questionable, but Ive also seen officers do things that were amazingly heroic. I personally remember answering a call Christmas Eve at the home of a young Hispanic family. They had been burglarized and all of their Christmas gifts had been taken. The older white officer I was riding with went to Walmart right after that call and purchased toys for the children of that family, gave them to the father, and told me to keep that between us. I learned a few things that night from him. Incidents like that happen on a regular basis, but those stories are not told as often. The truth of the matter is, there are more good officers than bad. However, a few bad officers, out of thousands, stand out when the media focuses on their indiscretions. Its kind of like race relations. A few bad apples from one race can create a stereo type for that whole race. Im not saying racism does not exist in law enforcement, for I believe it truly does. I am saying that police officers are needed. In order to change something like this, we need people to join with officers that can relate to all people. Like, my self.
