There has been a lot of discussion of race in the Republican Party - TopicsExpress

There has been a lot of discussion of race in the Republican Party over the last year. For the last decade, Ive been telling anyone who will listen that the Republican Party needs to do a better job of explaining how its platform transcends race or it will become extinct. This is particularly true in states like Mississippi if you follow demographic and voting trends. While no community of people is homogeneous, there are differences between the way white America and black America look at policy. I honestly believe those differences dont have as much to do with race as they do socio-economics. I would like to have more African Americans in the Republican Party, not for electoral success, but because I believe in conservative policy and think it is best for all Americans. To do that, I think weve got to change the way we communicate. I also think, as a general rule, that people dont care what you have to say until they know that you care. Sorry for the random missive.
