There has been much speculation as to what happened during the meeting between Joan Laporta and Jorge Mendes which was reported by MARCA. The two of them met for lunch on Wednesday in a private room at Madrids Filandón restaurant. Rumours began to fly as soon as news of the meeting was made public, amongst them the possibility that the ex-Barça president might have asked Mendes about Cristiano Ronaldo or José Mourinho, with the intention of using them as part of his electoral campaign. The truth is that they discussed lots of players during lunch, because Laportas plan was to be brought up to speed on current events within the football market. Amongst them, the names of CR7 and Mou were put on the table, although the lawyer only asked the agent about them to be polite, asking how Mourinho was doing at Chelsea, whether he was happy, and not under the premise of signing him for Barça. It would be another thing for Laporta to weigh up trying to sign the coach once informed of his situation, his buy-out clause and his salary. In any case, that would be a plan for the future, although the mere possibility of it happening brought floods of reactions from fans. In a MARCA poll asking whether Barça supporters would accept Mourinho back at the club, 53% of respondents said they would have no problem if he returned, whilst 47% were not so sure.
