There has been some interesting comments following my blog yesterday which featured a conversation about smoking…………………ments like this one; Name: Laura_______- Message: I wonder if you would favor smoking on the balconies John if like me you suffered from severe allergic reactions to second hand smoke. I think it is wrong that you say smoking is OK there and that you support it. Your cigar habit is another clear sign of your lazy lifestyle and will along with your weight issues lead to a premature death. Is that what you want for your family. As Carnival’s spokesperson you should stand up and say smoking is wrong and should be banned and you should not allow your own bad habits to influence what is done to the passengers who pay for cruises. Just saying. As I won’t be writing another blog until Friday I wanted to reply to this now and to reply to it here as well in case I misled anyone and to apologise to Laura. My own enjoyment of cigars has, trust me, no influence on what smoking policies the company decided to implement and certainly I will adhere to whatever the beards decide. At the moment there are no changes planned and we will continue to allow smoking on balconies but this situation is certainly a fluid one and may, or may not change. I am very respectful of those around me when I smoke a cigar and I know that it is not a healthy past time. But I enjoy it, it is the one thing that when I am away from the family I love that relaxes me…………that and certain Latvian movies. So to be clear, I support any decision the company makes here and I promise you again that I have bugger all influence in what decisions are made on this subject. It is far, far bigger than me.
