There is a common teaching that sprang up in the early 20th century that speaking in tongues is the proof of receiving the Holy Spirit. This is what we discussed in the articles The Baptism of the Holy Spirit PI and PII. There are also many pastors today who believe and teach that you have to speak in tongues to be saved or at least show that you have this ability in order to have the Holy Spirit. Is any of this true? NO! Because the Holy Spirit is given to all Believers as a gift.
