There is a difference between privacy and secrecy. The first is a good, the second is always bad for someone. As we watch the slow destruction of the great experiment in freedom that America aspired to, it is good to know that some people are prepared to sacrifice more than most of us ever had to do what is right. The sad thing is, that as most Americans, and those of us who live in its empire, focus ever more maniacally on the most superficial trivia, his sacrifice will make not one iota of difference. Paul Revere once rode through the night to warn of impending disaster and the people took notice and took action. In fact there were 40 riders that night spreading out through the countryside to raise the alarm. If there were 40 Edward Snowdens today the whole system of secrecy and undeclared war would be under actual threat. But right now there is just Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden.
