There is a golden age myth about American education, that we were - TopicsExpress

There is a golden age myth about American education, that we were once on top of the world, but that we have fallen behind and so must get on the stick with lots of tests and test prep. Wrong. The US has never scored very well on international tests. The country that won the race to the moon was not the one with the highest test scores, it was us. (We ranked last at the time) It is the US that gave birth to Apple and Microsoft, not the highest score. We have become dupes of the testing industry, and we have wasted a lot of money jumping to the directives of the testers. We seemed to have forgotten the idea of diminishing returns. A little testing goes a long way. A lot of testing just wastes time and money and gives the wrong lessons about education. dianeravitch.net/2013/12/03/my-view-of-the-pisa-scores/
