There is a poison on the Right. Constant baseless claims on the integrity and credibility of every legitimate source from science to news reporting, to Court decisions which dont go their way, conspiratorial notions backed with nothing. This is fomenting beliefs which undermine democracy entirely. Honest conservatives have to realize that this nonsense will lead in the end to violence and oppression. Democratic outcomes, whether we like them or not are the basis for civil society. With all the conspiracy theorists and hate mongers on the Right emboldened and inflamed over the past 6 years, and now we hear (about the 2014 midterms) all the pre-election claims of if we lose they stole the election! - mind you this is priming the pump, not to see things objectively, but a priori with bias - a dangerous state indeed. The manipulation of fervor is the germ of bondage. Milovan Djilas I dont think its much of a thought experiment to ask those, both on the left and right to imagine what they think would happen if we had a hanging chad issue in 2016 decided by the Supreme Court in favor of a Democrat? Clive Bundy ring a bell? That would be mild. To all conservatives with integrity you must recognize this for what it is: ideology over democracy. A sense of righteousness which bestows upon the bearer the authority to act without consent. Its time for some honest conservatives to warn of the recklessness of these actions. To tell the people this is about power. Let them know, so they can make up their own minds, whether or not you are in agreement with the goals of the far Right, tell them the means will poison everything. Tell them the demagogues spouting this care not for the authority of democratic processes. Tell them they are ideologically opposed to democracy, if it says confiscatory taxation is allowed. If regulation and government compulsion is used to regulate business. Tell the people they want to install a government without regard for popular sovereignty. Tell the truth. We have a great country and a great tradition here. We have remained for the most part a civil society. A democratic society. Dont let a few hardcore ideologues take that away.
