There is a rumor going around on social media and the internet alleging that the IRS will be placing a lien on homes if the owners fail to purchase individual health insurance. This rumor is unequivocally false. Although you may be subject to a penalty for failing to purchase health insurance, the IRS has no statutory authority to place a lien against your home to compel the payment of the penalty under the Affordable Care Act (otherwise known as ObamaCare). Congress specifically prohibited the IRS from garnishing wages and filing liens against real property to enforce the individual mandate to purchase health insurance. So as jacked up as Obamacare is....at least this one is false. Hopes this helps dispel any rumors. Kevin
