There is a scene in the #movie Escape Fire, where a veteran in #Afghanistan falls off of a table as he #overdoses on the amount of #painkillers that hes been prescribed for his #pain. Later in the movie you can see the #veteran with an entire plastic grocery bag full of empty #pill bottles that he dumps to the floor saying, this is what I was taking daily. According to JAMA Internal Medicine, up to 15% of veterans are being prescribed #addictive #opiates to help with the wounds that they have received overseas and up to 44% of #soldiers have stated that they are living #life with #chronic pain. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is working on a way to help with pain management in the #military. Remember that #addiction comes in all different shapes and sizes, whether it be our #mother, #children, #sisters or personal #hero.
