There is a sense of self-esteem that comes with knowing that you can learn. No matter how old you are, no matter how little or how much time is left to your life, you can still learn.... You gain the ability to look at something you’ve done and realize that there may be something wrong here, but that doesn’t have to threaten your identity. It just calls forth your desire to learn more about what did you do wrong, why was it wrong, what could you do in the future not to repeat that mistake. A second aspect of this more skillful sense of self is a sense of self that understands what’s an important question: what’s an issue that’s worth pursuing and what are the issues you don’t really have to pursue. ~ Thanissaro Bhikkhu
