There is a total lunar eclipse visible from Australia on the evening of the 8th of October. For eastern states, the Moon will start to pass into Earths shadow at about 8:15 pm (summer time) and by 9:25 pm will be fully immersed in Earths shadow (total phase). Mid point of the eclipse, when the Moon is deepest in shadow, occurs at 9:55 pm. The total phase ends at 10:25 pm. The Moon will leave Earths shadow by 11:35 pm. Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse is completely safe to watch. During the total phase, the moon takes on a very deep red colour. Depending on demand, I might have a special viewing night for this event.
