There is a very big difference is just reading something and really studying it. The Bible is a good example of this. It takes prayer and a desire to understand what we are reading, see James 1:5 to be a strong child of God. Consider this a doctor does not become a doctor simply by reading medical books. He has to put the knowledge in his mind that is true. But it takes understanding of what he is learning to be successful. He does that by careful contemplation of the knowledge he is gaining. By applying what he learning into practical use. By discussion with his mentors, and by experience. With all these things applied to his effort, he will become a wise, and effective helper to mankind, able to discern and how to assist those around him.
